]]>There’s nothing wrong with using geek or nerd as descriptive terms, just like there’s nothing wrong with using hipster as a descriptive term. The single use of hipster was, as a matter of fact, describing a particular and well-known aesthetic. It’s about as hypocritical as using “gutterpunk” – another descriptive term used in the post.

]]>If anyone should be offended here, it should be minority geeks in Philly (who are numerous) because they are completely unrepresented. But I don’t think minority geeks should be offended either. This was not microagression, which for sure exists. This was what it was. A flawed but amusing attempt to define something silly.
For the record, I’m a girl and a geek and I look nothing like that picture. My husband is a guy and a geek and he looks nothing like that picture. (Philly geeks have iOS. Hello!!) Still worth a glance and a laugh. Doesn’t seem worth anyone’s time or ire to me.
